American University Dialog
On 12nd December , we have visit American University. It is same like what I expected, the university is huge. I like the environment over there because it is clean and the students are so energetic and free. When we arrived, we have a delicious lunch in the cafeteria of AU. Surprisingly the cafeteria is full with different kind of foods. What I like the most is the counter is full design by apples, everyone also can take the apple they want. This shows that the cafeteria of university is concern about the students’ health. In the cafeteria, they provide variety of foods. It includes the Asian foods and Western Foods. Amazingly there are many of different desserts. I really hope that if our cafeteria can supple variety food for the UMP students. Food is very important for all the students. If the university want to upgrade become a top university, students are the factor to achieve this successes. Besides upgrading the standard and quality of students, the life style like eating habits also important. After the delicious meals, we start the conference with entitle of Career Objectives and Student life in United State and Malaysia.
I feel very lucky because I can communicate with the fresh graduator of American University. This is because fresh graduator can tell us about the overall experience in the university which can show us the clear picture. There are some students also from Asian country like Singapore. Lee is the students who have been there for 1 year. This give me a big encourage that Asian people also can survey in American. Before this I feel like America is a country that I never think and try before. Singaporean can do so same like we also can do so.
During the conference, I notice that the way of learning are different from UMP. For example, about the activity, they are very activate in their university society. What I know is they have nearly 100 association in their university but compare with us we just have nearly 30 association. We have the equal chance with the AU in the activity, but the only different is the students in UMP. May be UMP students think that activity is not important as the academic but through the activity we also can improve ourselves especially soft skill. In the conference, I have mention about the facility that prepared in UMP for example the transportation which really convenience for students if there are any activity.
Not only that, I also notice that most of the American University students take part time job in their school time. This make me so curios that how they can able to manage their time until can handle their study, activity and doing part time job. Here shows that we need a great improvement in term of time managing and this is one part of the soft skill.
During the visit period I can see all the students is busy with their own. According to Professor American University, this time all the students will pack in the cafeteria and library. This shows that they fully use the time for study week. Normally the students will study in group but this is still less apply in our university. Refer to our university, students rather go back to their hometown and study by their own. Although group discussion have been apply among the school, collage, and university Malaysia but the achievement is not so efficient in our university. For example, the culture of discuss is just study in a group by own. Study group is one kind of discussion to increase the opinion and ideas from each member. This is important to upgrade the thinking of students.
